Why does 1Less2Tell also focus on life after abuse?

Because it is the part the world sees least. There is wide awareness of what sexual abuse is, and far less of what it means to live with it afterward — to rebuild a life, an identity, and a sense of safety over years. The abuse and what follows it are inseparable; 1Less2Tell gives that less-seen part of the truth a place to be seen, without ever diminishing what caused it.

Who is behind 1Less2Tell?

It was founded by Jean Dorff, an author and survivor who tells his own story in his book Broken Silence. He reads every story submitted to the site. 1Less2Tell is operated by The Empowering Story.

How are stories verified and moderated?

Accepted Answer

Every submission is read by a person before it appears. Storytellers verify a real email address and provide their identity privately to the site, even when they publish anonymously — this keeps the platform accountable for what it publishes. Stories are reviewed for safety and never edited for content: they stand as they are told.

Is it really anonymous?

Accepted Answer

A storyteller chooses how their name appears publicly — real first name, a chosen name, or Anonymous. Their real identity and location are held privately by the site and never published. Anonymity to the public is fully honoured; the private record exists only so the platform can be responsible for what it publishes and can reach the storyteller if needed.

Are these stories written by real people, or by AI?

By real people. 1Less2Tell asks storytellers to write in their own words and does not accept AI-written stories — a machine can write a story, but not the truth of a lived one. Stories that appear machine-written may be declined in review.

Journalists, programme-makers, and researchers are welcome to reach out through the Contact page. Please do not republish stories or identify storytellers without permission; the site protects survivor privacy first, and access to further detail is handled case by case.

1Less2Tell is operated by The Empowering Story, an organization founded by Jean Dorff around storytelling and healing. 1Less2Tell is its own place — free to enter, with no requirement to engage anything beyond it.
