Our Stories

Jean Dorff

"He said that it was all ok, but it didn't feel ok. Maybe because it was all new for me? Maybe because it was daytime and we were in bed? Maybe because the children from outside could come running in every moment now? Or maybe, just maybe, because I was seven years old and he was my uncle! - My uncle whom instead of protecting me was the one whom I needed protection from.”

The abuse started when I was seven years old and went on for more than 5 years of my childhood. My story is a bad story of abuse and domestic violence. Unfortunately, it's not a unique story… and what gets me the most is that thousands of similar new stories of young kids like myself start every day.

I wrote my book -BROKEN SILENCE: Living with Passion and Purpose after Sexual Abuse, A Dancer's Story- to tell my story, to break the silence and encourage other victims to do the same. It's not only the victims who need to break the silence, we all need to raise awareness for what is happening. This will be a major step forward in bringing the number of abuse and domestic violence cases down. ** We need to stop sexual abuse and domestic violence, not for me, but for all the women, men and children out there. **
